Kafka had a clear idea on what the American dream would become, even if he didn’t want it published:
“If necessary, he would gladly become a messenger boy, but it was certainly not altogether inconceivable that he would be hired solely for office work and would someday become an office employee and sit at his own desk, where he could spend some time looking out the window without a care in the world…” From Amerika, pg. 240
At least that’s the best we can hope for until our industrial overlords realize they can now make their buildings without windows.
